get an electric one
-it will be easier for him to use
–if you are not home and he has a gas powered one then he cant get gas for it =P
—if he has a battery operated one then he can just pop out the old batteries and get new ones =]

Get him a battery. Although the gas go faster, they are dangerous. He wont need that fast of one because everything is fast to a 5 year old. Get one at Radioshack or a place near you. Charging is easy, but like i said, gas is flammible.

Gas powered are much more dangerous what happens if he opens the tank and tries to take a drink or gets it on his hands if it flips over and he puts them in his mouth
Battery power are easy fun and as fast as they need to be for a kid that young heck most packages for the RC cars say 8-10 and up he’s 5 Battery power is fine
plus the gas ones don’t always take regular “your car” type gas its RC gas which is expensive in itself go to any model/hobbie shop and you’ll see Battery is better and easier to fix if the car is damaged

My nephew is 4 and this year I found him this really neat RC truck that takes batteries….its nice looking and a good size…it was 10 bucks at walgreens…they have 20 ones..and they have 6 ones….I figure they loook as nice as the really expensive ones and the kids are going to be rough on it anyways…To me I would rather get good product at a lesser price then I can get the kids more to open. I also got him these neat cars that have a switch so they can be pushed around by the kids..and if you switch the switch the other way and put a battery in them…the toys just go on their own.
I recommend getting Battery operated RC car..not just because batteries is something the kids can change themselves at 5…BUT make sure you get a car that can be used with rechargeable batteries then it saves your pocket book money too

You get enough play time out of an RC car battery for a 5 year old, it’s plenty. Getting a gas powered car would be ridiculous, as the 5 year old is not old enough how to safely handle the car, what to keep it away from, what to do if the gas spills, and so on and so forth. The gas can be difficult to find, if it doesn’t use regular gas, and with the gas prices today, I don’t know why anyone would consider a gas powered RC car for a little kid anyway. As for the battery powered ones, if you are concerned about changing the batteries, and battery recharging, or if you think your child will play with the car longer than it holds the battery, buy a second battery, so you always have one charged or in the charger, and one in the car. Most of the time though, the battery will hold for an entire use, and then you just charge it. Besides, switching the batteries in most of them is a matter of sliding a battery in a slot, and turning a little latch type thing, it’s not like removing screws, replacing batteries, and all of that which you might be thinking, which is common in other toys. Anyhow, at 5 years old, he isn’t going to care what powers it, as long as it’s the monster truck that he wants.
